1st Memorial Day in France

We got mooned by a peacock in a castle on Memorial Day! The Smith's came to see us and us girls took the to the Citadel while Daddy was in class. We had a great day.

Here we are at the top of the Citadel over looking Besancon. uncle greg and aunt memry had a tight hold on us. We made them nervous being so high up since we wanted to see over the edge of the walls.

There is even a small aquarium. There are little cut outs from one tank to the next designed just for us to crawl up in and see the fish up close . This is my favorite part of the whole trip! I LOVE seeing the fish in the tanks!

Elisabeth had a great time with them. By this point I was kicked back in the stroller hoping for a nap.

Here we are posing with the peacock and the Smith's.

Elisabeth was imitating uncle Greg while he was taking pictures. It was too cute. It took some time for her to warm up to him but then they were great pals.

Very weird, these 4 long haired baboons lined up on the wall as we were leaving. Doesn't everyone see baboons and peacocks in a castle on Memorial Day?

Mother's Day in the french countryside

For Mother's day weekend we went to the Soloman's house in Reugney. We learned alot about French culture and ate alot of different food. They always have something going on since there are 6 kids who ALL play an instrument. They also have alot of visitors coming and going and some stay with them for months at a time! In this picture we had just finished dinner. We had rocklette, which is a famous traditional french meal. The round thing on the table is a rocklette cooker. You place a slice of moldy cheese on a little trianlge tray and you heat it on the top. Then you poor it over your potatoes. It was VERY good. Daddy even liked it even though it was cheese. There are 8 little trays and so you just contunally cook cheese and pass around the trays as they are ready. Then for dessert we had homemade apple sauce and juice from their apple trees in their backyard. At the table you see me then Michel (the dad) then a Cheque girl who was visiting), Sarah the oldest, then Elisabeth and Lew then Paul, Kate (an American girl staying for the summer), Luke, Claire (the mom), and Ann. Their other 2 younger kids Deborah and Jonathan were at the other table. There were over 50 people at their house over the course of 3 days!!! and they fed them ALL!!!

Here is there house. It is huge and older than the USA!! ALOT of the country houses are this big.

We had fun playing outside even though it was cold. They had a swing and a little playhouse and beautiful backyard.

This picture reminds momma of when she was a little girl with her cat Snowden. The Soloman's had 2 cats that we loved to pet. I actually ended up pulling it's fur out because one of the boys taught me to. It didn't mind though. It was fun to chase them around.

Deborah had fun fixing Elisabeth's hair.

Here was our lunch one day. It was EXCELLENT sausage with rice covered in a tomato sauce. Everything we ate that weekend was so yummy! I can't get enough sausage! Elisabeth even likes it and she is soooo picky! But we tried everything they served us. We even ate hot moldy cheese :)

While we were there Deborah also had her 8th birthday party. It was fun
and there was even cake with candles!
